I have questions, where do I find help?

We recently created a knowledge base to help you navigate tax processes and make the most of your experience with us.  It’s new and developing - and we’re looking forward to connecting with you here.  Let us know what you find helpful and what else you need.

How do I access my organizer and upload my documents to check in for taxes?

We have emailed an invitation to fill out your organizer and upload your documents. If you need help, please contact our Client Services team at info@taxtrailer.com or 512-912-1040.

I have questions! Can I contact you directly?

Absolutely! Our team is here to help. Connect directly with your preparer for questions and concerns related to your tax matters. Our Client Services team is available for administrative support and billing information ( info@taxtrailer.com, 512-912-1040, or Contact Us online.

What are your rates?

Our fees to prepare a Form 1040 start at $500 and increase based on the complexity, time involved, and coordination needed for your tax return. Our base price includes W2s, interest and dividend statements, and itemized deductions. There are additional charges for sole proprietorships, stock sales/capital gains, rental properties, state filings, forms like K1s, and other specialized tax issues.

Please note that our rates for return preparation are higher this year.  We expect that many of our clients will see increases of at least 20% overall.

Why do your services cost more?

We increased our prices based on market research and aligned with other firms like ours, that have chosen to specialize in small business and individuals, and do it extremely well.

Fees for our tax services are set to help us meet a commitment of care for you and provide the highest level of service possible.  We are quite selective when hiring our CPAs, and we also compensate them well.  We pride ourselves on having a roster of amazing humans to serve you with expertise and integrity.

Can I get an estimate for my tax services?

Sure! We’ll use information about your prior return, and let us know about anything changed for your tax situation.  Our estimated prices are given for transparency and in good faith, but charges are subject to change based on the actual requirements and details of your return preparation and filings.

What happens after checking-in?

Your return will officially be in queue!  Our services are ‘first come, first serve’ in the order they are checked-in.  Your preparer will notify you when they get started.

It is important to let us know, if you upload additional documents or have updated information to share with your preparer.

As we get closer to the deadline, our queue gets longer and may increase the time it takes to receive your return.  Progress often depends on our ability to collect the information required, and we depend on clients to communicate and be responsive in this effort.

We do not make guarantees about timely filing.  Many variables can alter the timeline and process of getting your tax return ready.  We will help you file an extended return and make your 2022 annual tax payment by the due date, if more time is needed to prepare.

We will keep you informed about the status of your return, and you are welcome to check with us for updates.

How will my preparer review my tax return with me?

After checking-in, watch for emails and messages from your preparer and our team.  They will advise if additional information is needed, ask questions, and collaborate with you to complete your return.  Your portal is a hub that makes exchanging your information both secure and easy.

We’ll share a draft of the return in your portal, and send you a message.  Depending on what’s needed, we’ll plan the best next steps to address your questions and get your return ready to file.

What do I need to do to file my return?

Once your return is ready, watch your email for a signature request, our invoice, and notification that your return is ready. Your return will be filed, once we receive your signature on the authorization form (Form 8879) and after we receive your payment for our services.

Your Client Action file will be shared in the portal along with your final return.  Review this document for a summary of your tax return, important instructions, and information about your tax payments or refund.

When are taxes due?

The filing deadline to submit individual tax returns (or an extension) and pay taxes for 2023 is Tuesday, April 15, 2024.  Extensions only extend the date for filing the tax return. Tax payments cannot be extended.

Do you do last-minute tax returns?

No, we need time to accurately prepare and process your return.  As our queue grows over the tax season, we expect at least a two week wait time.  We may need to strategize an estimated tax payment and plan to file your return before the extended deadline.

What is the extended deadline?

Filing an extension with the IRS gives you until October 15, 2024 to file your tax return. You’ll have extra time to file, but your payment for any taxes owed is still considered due April 15, 2024.

How can I get an extension?

We process extensions for all of our clients automatically, so there is no need to request one. If you would like confirmation that your extension was filed, please let us know.

How can I access my final return?

We’ll share final copies of your federal return, state returns, and client action files in your portal.

How can I pay my bill?

When your return is ready to file, we’ll send you an invoice with a payment link.  You can use ACH or a credit card.

If we already have your account information on file, we’re happy to run a payment that way.  Just let us know if you would like this arrangement, and we’ll send you a link for authorization.
